I had the pleasure to sit down with Joe Reis and Matt Housley and take our time to discuss Data Security on the Monday Morning Data Chat.
One of the first topics we covered was the increasing complexity of data management. As businesses scale and integrate more sophisticated technologies, the volume and sensitivity of their data skyrockets. With this comes the need for better data security frameworks and more efficient governance models. I spoke about how many companies are now scrambling to implement policies and controls, only to realise that a patchwork approach just won’t cut it anymore.
At Raito, we believe that managing data security starts with a strong foundation: knowing who has access to what, and ensuring that permissions align with the business needs. This is easier said than done, especially for companies that haven’t prioritised data governance from the beginning. However, it’s never too late to start, and Raito helps companies improve their data security posture without disrupting data access.
During the podcast, we also discussed transparency—how critical it is for organisations to not only secure their data but to do so in a way that instills confidence in their stakeholders. In today’s environment, it’s not enough to claim that your data is secure; you have to prove it. This is where access control comes in.
One thing I emphasized was the importance of dynamic, context-aware access controls. Traditional IAM technology and frameworks are no longer sufficient when dealing with complex datasets and varied user roles as they are too coarse-grained. Raito is built around fine-grained access management, offering flexible permissioning that adapts to real-time changes in user roles and business needs. This ensures that only the right people have access to sensitive data—no more, no less.
Another key topic we explored is scaling security practices as organizations grow. As companies expand their operations, data security often becomes an afterthought, especially for fast-growing data teams or those that focus heavily on product development. But the reality is, neglecting security early on can lead to larger issues later. Breaches, fines, and a loss of customer trust are risks that simply aren’t worth taking.
I shared examples of how we at Raito are helping businesses scale their security operations in a cost-effective, automated way. Through the use of automated audits and real-time monitoring, companies can stay compliant with regulations and avoid the pitfalls of manual security management.
We wrapped up the discussion with a critical point: data security isn’t just the responsibility of IT or the security team; it’s a company-wide effort. Employees at every level need to be aware of the data they handle and the risks that come with mishandling it. One of Raito’s goals is to make security accessible and understandable to everyone in an organization, not just the technical teams.
Our platform empowers users to take control of their data, while simultaneously enabling security teams to enforce policies with confidence. It’s a win-win that not only strengthens security but also fosters a culture of accountability across the business.
Being on Monday Morning Data Chat was a fantastic experience, and it reinforced why I’m so passionate about what we do at Raito. Data security is no longer just a box to check—it’s a core component of business strategy, and companies that fail to prioritise it risk falling behind. At Raito, we help data teams navigate this complex space with confidence, ensuring their data is protected today and in the future.
